Different types of stainless steel used to make flatware

Pulished on Apr. 22, 2023

There are several different types of stainless steel used to make flatware. The most common type is 18/10 Stainless Steel: This type of stainless steel contains 18% chromium and 10% nickel, which gives it a high level of corrosion resistance and makes it very durable. It is also known as type 304 or 304-grade stainless steel.

18/8 Stainless Steel: Similar to 18/10 stainless steel, 18/8 stainless steel contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel and is also very corrosion-resistant and durable.

18/0 Stainless Steel: This type of stainless steel contains 18% chromium and 0% nickel, which makes it less expensive than 18/10 or 18/8 stainless steel. It is also less corrosion-resistant and less durable than the other two types.

13/0 Stainless Steel: This type of stainless steel contains 13% chromium and 0% nickel, and is the most inexpensive option. It is also the least corrosion-resistant and least durable of all the stainless steel types commonly used for flatware.

The numbers in the names of the stainless steel types refer to the percentage of chromium and nickel they contain.
